WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

M O R E D E T A I L S C O M I N G S O O N

Primal Predator is the perfect course for anyone wanting to learn more about scene assembly, set dressing, populating procedual environments, shading, lighting, creating complex dynamic setup, adding amazing particle, pyro, water and volumetric effects, managing data between shots and different tools following a step-by-step series of lessons simulating the entire creation and planning process.

Some topics we are going to cover with this course :

  • complex and heavy VFX shots plannning

  • shot/project management

  • previz techniques

  • set dressing and procedural environment creation

  • creating complex natural environments with plants and thoushands of assets

  • managing I/O data between tools and software

  • learn how to use 3ds max in heavy VFX shots

  • understanding professional workflow and pipeline

  • TyFlow : Terrain, soft and hard surface dynamic, grain solver, simulating rain, caching and optimization, etc etc

  • Chaos Phoenix : creating and managing ocean sims, adding foam/spray, creating waterfall, playing with wet mapping

  • complex realistic materials creation for realistic creatures and environment

  • production ready lighting setup and look development techniques

  • creature interaction FX with environment and plants

  • pyro and explosion simulation and rendering techniques in Embergen / V-Ray

  • understanding multi-pass compositing

  • working in post production to achieve cinematic look and adding a lot of secondary effects

  • many more stuff.....

SHOT BREAKDOWN

Initial sketch

Primal Predator project is based on 7 full cgi shots. Here you can see some informations showing the storyboard idea, final look you will reach and what you will learn following all course lessons shot by shot. For all scenes we'll take care about naming convention, layering, scene and asset management in a efficient and professional way.

SHOT 01 - "The Primal Land"

Final look

It is out 1st shot, we are moving down to the ground slowly with the camera to arrive to the land where dinosaurs lives :

  • Preparing camera animation

  • Terrain modeling using tyFlow, procedural texture generation

  • Exporting and optimizing terrain mesh

  • Daylight lighting

  • Scattering plants using Forest Pro/Chaos Scatter, masking and variation techniques

  • Clouds setup with Embergen, export to VDB, shading with V-Ray

  • Multipass compositing techniques / Look tuning and additional effects in DaVinci Resolve

SHOT 02 - "Dinosaur swimming"

Initial sketch

Final look

We see dinosaur hunting and swimming in a calm water river :

  • Preparing camera animation

  • Water simulation with Chaos Phoenix, interaction with dinosaur, spray and foam setup, dynamic optimization to achieve best compromise between realism, speed and quality

  • Wet mapping simulation, exporting data to material setup to simulate wet effect over dinosaur skin

  • Water plane extension

  • Dinosaur animated cache management

  • Daylight lighting

  • Realistic dinosaur material setup, skin SSS shading techniques

  • Multipass compositing techniques / Look tuning and additional effects in DaVinci Resolve

SHOT 03 - "Small waterfall"
